What is dieline and print ready packaging artwork?
A dieline is the flat template that defines how a physical package will be cut, folded, creased, glued or assembled. Print ready artwork is the final production file placed correctly on that dieline and prepared according to the requirements of the printer or packaging manufacturer. Together, they turn a visual packaging concept into something that can actually be manufactured.
A production artwork project can include dieline creation or correction, cut, fold, crease and glue areas, bleed, safe zones, panel alignment, CMYK and Pantone setup, overprint, trapping, white ink, varnish, foil and embossing layers, barcode placement, image resolution checks, font preparation, preflight, PDF export, printer proof review and version control. The exact setup depends on the packaging format, printing method, material and printer specification.

How we work
How we build print ready packaging artwork
1Collect files and specifications
We start with existing packaging design, brand assets, product information, dieline, printer specification, dimensions, material, printing method and finishing requirements — and identify anything missing before production artwork begins.
2Build or correct the dieline
We create or correct the structural artwork for cut, fold, crease, glue, panel areas, bleed and safe zones, validated against the actual packaging structure.
3Place the artwork
Approved creative is positioned on the dieline with panel alignment, orientation, trim, fold and glue clearance, text, image and barcode placement checked.
4Set up colour and finishing
We prepare CMYK, Pantone, white ink, varnish, foil, embossing, debossing, overprint and trapping — only the layers relevant to the project.
5Preflight
We inspect the final artwork for common production problems that could cause a printer query or require correction.
6Export
We export the production file according to the printer's specification, which may include PDF X or another requested production format.
7Proof review
Where a printer proof is available, we review it against the approved artwork for colour, trim, missing elements, finishing and positioning. The printer remains responsible for physical production.
8Final handoff
Final files are organized and delivered with clear version information so the printer knows which file to use and how each production layer is intended to work.

What is a dieline?

Yes, where the required packaging dimensions and structural information are available. For complex physical structures, the packaging manufacturer should validate the final dieline before production.
Can you fix my existing dieline?

My printer rejected my artwork. Can you fix it?
Usually, yes. We can review the rejection issue and prepare the artwork according to the printer's specification. A redesign is not necessarily required.

No. 10turtle is a design and prepress studio. We prepare the artwork and production files. Your printer or packaging converter handles the actual manufacturing.
Do you work with my printer?
Yes. We prefer to work from your printer's specification so the production artwork matches the actual manufacturing process.
Can you prepare PDF X files?
Yes. Where required by the printer, we can prepare the final artwork as a PDF X production file. The exact PDF X version depends on the printer's specification.
Do you provide editable source files?
The source file format depends on the project agreement. Where included, production artwork can be supplied in an editable format alongside the final production files.
Can you handle many SKUs?
Yes. We can create a structured artwork system for multiple product variants and maintain version control across the range.
Can you create foil and embossing layers?
Yes. We can create dedicated production layers for foil, embossing, debossing, varnish and other finishing processes where required.
Can you prepare white ink artwork?

Yes. We can create 3D packaging visuals from the approved artwork and packaging structure. These can be useful for ecommerce, presentations, product launches and internal approvals.
Does print ready mean the printer will definitely accept the file?
No. We build according to the printer's supplied specification and perform a preflight review, but the printer remains responsible for its own production requirements and acceptance. That is why using the actual printer specification is important.
