Sustainable packaging design is the process of designing packaging with environmental impact in mind from the beginning. It considers more than the artwork printed on a box, bottle, pouch or label. The structure, material, weight, size, production method, recyclability, transport requirements and environmental claims can all affect the final result.
Sustainability is becoming an increasingly important consideration for businesses operating in Dubai. Dubai Municipality has introduced measures encouraging more sustainable consumption and the use of recycled and reusable materials. The final phase of Dubai's single use plastic regulation came into effect on 1 January 2026 and covers several additional single use plastic products. At the UAE level, circular economy principles are also being incorporated into the packaging value chain. We design with the product, market, manufacturer and intended end of life in mind rather than treating sustainability as a label added at the end. The right solution depends on the product, market, manufacturing process and available recovery infrastructure.
