What it is

What is 3D illustration?

3D illustration is custom artwork created using three dimensional modeling and rendering techniques. Objects, characters, products and environments are modeled digitally, assigned materials, positioned within a scene, lit and rendered into finished artwork. The major advantage is flexibility — once a model and scene have been created, the same asset can often be viewed from different angles, placed into different compositions, recolored, relit or adapted for different formats.

That makes 3D illustration particularly useful when a brand needs visual assets that can continue working across multiple channels — for example one product model becoming a website hero, launch visual, social artwork, advertising creative, presentation visual, packaging artwork, ecommerce imagery or campaign illustration. 3D is not automatically the right answer for every project. Simple editorial artwork, blog illustrations and small spot graphics can often be produced more efficiently with 2D illustration.

How we work

Our 3D illustration process

1Brief and references

We begin by understanding what needs to be illustrated, where the artwork will appear and what visual direction you have in mind. We review references, existing brand assets, products, sketches, screenshots and technical information where relevant.

2Style direction

Before detailed modeling begins, we establish the visual direction — realism, proportions, materials, color, lighting, composition and overall mood.

3Modeling

The required objects, characters or environments are modeled in three dimensions. For more complex work, early untextured views can help confirm the shape and composition before detailed materials and lighting are applied.

4Materials and lighting

Once the structure is approved, we develop the surface treatment and lighting — where the visual character of the illustration becomes more defined.

5Rendering and refinement

The scene is rendered at the required resolution. We refine camera angles, composition, crops, details and variations according to the agreed requirements.

6Delivery

Final artwork is exported for the intended applications — high resolution renders, web ready files, transparent images, alternate views and agreed native project files depending on scope.

Why it matters

Why use 3D illustration for your brand?

You do not always need more 3D. You need the right visual system for what you are trying to communicate — and custom 3D can give you control, reusability and a distinctive direction.

Create more tangible visuals

Some products and concepts are easier to understand when people can see their form, depth and materials. 3D gives you control over those visual details.

Build reusable visual assets

A completed model can potentially support multiple compositions and channels instead of creating every visual from scratch.

Distinctive, on-brand direction

Custom 3D artwork built around your brand colors, materials, proportions and lighting preferences feels more specific than generic stock imagery — and supports consistent campaigns.

Who this is best for

The right fit

Best fit when

Brands launching a new product; SaaS and technology companies building a distinctive visual language or explaining complex products; ecommerce businesses needing controlled product visuals; startups establishing a recognizable visual identity; marketing teams producing recurring campaign assets; brands that need multiple views of the same product; companies developing characters or mascots; or teams planning both still artwork and future animation — including businesses across Dubai and the wider UAE.

You might not need this

3D may be unnecessary if you only need simple spot illustrations, mainly require icons, need basic editorial artwork, have a budget better suited to 2D production, need a very large number of simple illustrations quickly, want an intentionally hand drawn direction, or only need a small blog header. In these situations, another illustration approach may deliver better value — and our custom illustration service is often the better fit.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does 3D illustration cost?

The cost depends on modeling complexity, materials, lighting, number of scenes, number of final renders, variations and required source files. A simple object is very different from a detailed character or complete environment. We scope the project before providing a project based quotation.

Can you match our existing brand style?

Yes. The 3D direction can be developed around your existing colors, visual language, level of realism, lighting preferences and brand guidelines.

Can you create product models from references?

Yes. Product photographs, sketches, technical references and other available information can help establish the model. The quality and completeness of the references will influence the modeling process.

Can one 3D model be used for multiple images?

Yes. Reusable models are one of the main advantages of 3D illustration. The same model can potentially be rendered from different angles, placed into different scenes, recolored or adapted for different compositions.

Can you create 3D characters?

Yes. We can develop custom 3D characters and mascots with defined proportions, materials, poses and visual characteristics.

Can you create isometric illustrations?

Yes. Isometric and technical 3D illustration can be useful for explaining platforms, workflows, systems, products and technical concepts.

Can you create 3D artwork for websites?

Yes. Website hero visuals, feature artwork, section illustrations and supporting graphics can be designed around the intended layout and responsive requirements.

Can 3D illustration be used for social media?

Yes. We can create alternate crops, compositions and views for social content and advertising where required.

Do you provide the original 3D files?

Final high resolution and web ready artwork can be delivered as part of the standard project scope. Native project files can also be included when agreed during scoping. The exact files and ownership terms should be confirmed before production begins.

What is the difference between 3D illustration and 3D animation?

3D illustration produces still artwork. 3D animation adds movement and requires additional work for motion, timing, rendering and video delivery.

Is 3D illustration better than 2D illustration?

Neither is automatically better. 3D is useful when depth, reusable models, controlled lighting or multiple views matter. 2D can be more appropriate for simple artwork, editorial illustration, icons and projects where speed or simplicity is more important.

Can you create a complete 3D illustration system?

Yes. A larger engagement can establish a consistent 3D style, reusable models, materials, lighting rules and an asset library for future campaigns and digital applications.

Can you help decide whether 3D is right for our project?

Yes. We can review the intended use, visual direction, number of assets and production requirements and recommend whether 3D, 2D or a combination makes the most sense.

What software do you use?

The 10turtle 3D illustration page references Blender, Cinema 4D, Spline, Figma and formats such as glTF and USDZ as part of its production capability. The specific tools and formats used depend on the requirements of the project.
